Whippets have a very peculiar temperament: they are very active dogs if they are allowed to go around with their owners or if they have a garden but when they are inside home they often sleep all day long on their favorite sofa and, by chance, they can become a bit lazy. So, it should be better to take them for a walk and a little exercise daily, in order to keep them healthy and in good shape. Whippets are very alive and strong built but they need to be cared referring to temperature's excursions because they are skin sensitive and, above all, they need a smooth cushion or bed to lie. Both my whippets hate rain so for me it is very difficult to walk them when it is bad weather, even for their needs. About food, it depends if they are trained or a bit sedentary life.
There are plenty of specialized dry dog foods that are well balanced for different exigencies. I also think that, for owners who are willing to cook, twice a week, some extra fresh good quality cocked meat and fish cuts, as well as a bit of pasta and rice and small quantities of vegetables are very suitable to our dogs and can integrate a basic dry food diet. Since if they are allowed to share the home and suppliers with their owners, it is better they get used to take a shower, but it is necessary to use a proper pet shampoo for their sensitive skin.
